Australia's national arts and culture think tank

ANA CEO Kate Fielding was invited to evidence at a public hearing for the Senate Inquiry into the National Cultural Policy on 14 April 2023, after ANA made a submission to the Inquiry in March.

Kate she explained the critical steps that would help Australia maximise its creative potential and become a cultural powerhouse, and discussed how everyday Australians believe arts, culture and creativity in all its forms are essential for human connection and social cohesion.

Kate highlighted the need for transparent, targeted and coordinated expenditure by all tiers of government and across portfolios to support an ambitious and innovative cultural policy and investment environment.

ANA also provided written answers on 18 April to questions taken on notice during the public hearing. These were:

QON1: Senator Davey: Have you also done work on the return on investment or potentially the multiplier impact of regional arts expenditure in particular?

QON2 Senator Hanson-Young: Have you compared creativity, culture, art to the public spending, government spend on sport?

QON3: Senator Cadell: (Preceded by discussion about regional media companies closing) Can you see anything to help the declining industries that preserve these arts as well as promoting new stuff?
