In this video, ANA CEO Kate Fielding discusses ANA’s latest research with young middle Australians and the value they place on arts, culture and creativity in Australian society.
Arts and culture are embedded in and inseparable from everyday life for young middle Australians. In 2021, ANA commissioned research to talk to the next generation of voters about arts and culture. Over three months, ANA spoke with more than 80 young people aged 18 – 29 living in outer suburban and regional Australia to find out what they think Australian arts and culture are and the value offered to them as individuals and as a society.
These young people all identified as undecided voters from low to middle income backgrounds living in marginal federal electorates. The research confirmed that young middle Australians are engaged and influential arts and culture creators, participators and consumers. They reported using arts and culture as tools to understand themselves and their changing world, to connect with their community online and in real life, and to improve their health and wellbeing.
